9th January 2026, Kathmandu Controversy over 'Lauro' Symbol: Independent Groups Accuse Balen Shah of Political Bargaining The Lauro Abhiyan, Swatantra Abhiyan, and Gen Z Abhiyan have formally demanded that Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah stop using the 'Lauro' (Cane) election symbol as a political tool. During a press conference in Kathmandu, campaigner Dambar Sahu alleged that the symbol, which represents the faith of independent candidates, is being used by Shah as a bargaining chip following his alliance with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
